Prohibited Airspace for Small Drones

Prohibition of Flying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Act

The following act applies to drones with a total weight of 100g or less.

Small drones must not be flown within 300m of the Prime Minister’s office, government buildings, and areas surrounding nuclear power plants. UAVs that fall under the Act on the Prohibition of Flying Small Drones are as follows:

Airplanes, airships, and other aviation equipment that cannot carry a human onboard
Balloons with control systems
Hang gliders
Paragliders

Areas defined under the Prohibition of Flying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Act

Important facilities of the national government:

Parliament Buildings, Prime Minister’s Office, Supreme Court, Imperial Palace etc

Government Administrative Buildings

Foreign diplomatic missions,
Defense related facilities
Airports
Nuclear power plantsx
Tournament venues

Is flying small drones completely banned under the Act?

In general, flying small drones within 300m of the facilities mentioned is banned under the Act. However, there are cases where the prohibition of drones does not apply, including:

Those who have gained consent from the target facility
Those who fly drones to carry out work under the national government
Those who own the land and have informed the target facility in advance

Penalties for violating the Prohibition of Flying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Act

You will be sentenced for up to one year in prison, or pay a fine up to Y500,000. The National Police Agency have jurisdiction over small drones and will heavily penalize those who violate the Small Drone Act.
