Prohibited Airspace for Drones

Airspace Above 150m

Drones must not be flown more than 150m above the ground or water. There is no problem if you fly at the top of a mountain if it less than 150m. However, as seen in the picture below, you may unknowingly fly in an airspace more than 150m, so please fly with care.

Airspace surrounding airports

The following rule applies to New Chitose Airport, Narita Airport, Kansai Airport, Fukuoka Airport, Nara Airport etc, (check this later).

Emergency Airspace

When emergency aircraft are required for activities such as firefighting, the MILT will designate and prohibit UAVs from entering the surrounding airspace. Flying a drone can interfere with emergency aircraft operations and will result in severe penalties for the person responsible. Once the emergency airspace has been declared by MILT, all UAVs are prohibited from flying in the declared airspace.

Densely Inhabited Districts (DID)

Populated areas such as Tokyo and Osaka prohibit the use of drones. Densely inhabited districts (DIDs) are marked in red as No-Fly Zones in the DJI Go App and are determined by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication. Before flying, it is vital to check the airspace is not a population concentration area. Please click the link HERE for a full list of concentration areas designated by MILT.
